The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) of Maldives has today endorsed the International Maldives Travel Market 2018 (IMTM 2018), a two-day B2B event scheduled set to be held at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi Resort, Maldives from 23rd to 24th June 2018.

The Minister of Tourism Hon. Moosa Zameer signed and presented the letter of endorsement to the management of IMTM 2018 at an event held at the Ministry of Tourism. Ms. Shiuna Khalid, Director of IMTM Pvt. Ltd. also presented a plaque of IMTM2018 to the Minister.

IMTM 2018 is set to be the first international travel and trade fair to be held at a resort. The event will bring together 30 leading international tour operators and travel agencies, representative of 14 countries to explore new opportunities and liaise with a major representation of the Maldives Tourism Industry. Furthermore, it is set to accommodate minimum 200 participants from the local tourism industry (resorts, hotels, guesthouses, liveaboards, dive centres, local tour operators and travel agencies)

In order to sustain the hospitality and tourism industry of Maldives IMTM is actively trying to create solutions and solve the problems that the industry is facing, especially those businesses that are trying hard to thrive but are unable to attend international fairs due to the hefty cost involved. It is evident that mostly the resort sector is consistently represented in international travel and trade fairs.

Mr. Rafil Mohamed, the Chief Operating Officer of IMTM Pvt. Ltd. commenting on the objective of IMTM 2018 stated “We are hosting an International Travel and Trade Fair in Maldives that seeks to provide a cost-effective internal platform which can garner a major collective industry presence consisting for international buyers to meet with”

He added “IMTM 2018 will be different to most conventional travel and trade fairs in the sense that at IMTM 2018 Hosted Buyers (Tour Operators and Travel Agencies) will be stationed at private meeting spaces/stalls acting as a type of “exhibitor”. Local accommodation providers on the other hand will not be stationed as exhibitors and instead will be attending as Trade Visitors to meet with the Hosted Buyers”

He went on to state “One of the key aspects of IMTM 2018 is the provision of a semi-formal setting by hosting the exhibition in a pristine tropical resort in the Maldives. Thus, allowing participants to indulge in a true Maldivian holiday experience before, during and after the official exhibition dates”

Apart from marketing benefits and coverage, IMTM press partners and participants to consider the fair as an investment for the future to strengthen the tourism industry stakeholders, especially SME’s like guesthouses and liveaboards. In addition, IMTM2018 will be a potential platform that can greatly assist the government’s goal to reach the target of attracting 2 million tourists by 2020.

Many countries gain a lot of economic benefit from hosting international fairs and exhibitions that bring in revenue into the country. IMTM’s long term vision is to promote Maldives as an emerging world class MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination. “We believe that this event can reap great benefits for the Maldives tourism industry in the short as well as long-term and assist towards making Maldives a world class MICE destination whilst strengthening the confidence of the tourists travelling to Maldives.” said Ms. Shiuna Khalid, Director of IMTM.
