Maldives will become an exemplary country in Islamic finance : Vice President

Vice President Abdullah Jihad have stated that he hopes that Maldives will become an exemplary country in the filed of Islamic finance. He said that Islamic financing is expanding at a fast rate in the Maldives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of 4th Maldives Islamic Banking and Finance Industry Conference, the Vice President said the fact that there are 13 shariah compliant financial institutions in the Maldives is proof that Maldives will become an exemplary country in the field.
He said that he is really happy that Islamic financing is expanding in the Maldives. “There are many reasons. Firstly, I am a Muslim and secondly, I worked in the financial sector for a long time. Also, I worked really hard to introduce Islamic finance to Maldives for a long time” said the Vice President.
Jihaad said that in Maldives most of the people involved in developing the Islamic finance sector are women and that he is happy for that as well. He said that this is an honor for the country. Jihad also noted that the women active in the field are trying to bring another Islamic bank to the country.
