Have planned a waste management system for three atolls and now discussing with donor agencies : Environment Ministry

Environment Ministry have stated that they have planned a waste management system for three atolls and are now discussing with donor agencies for funds. According to the ministry the three atolls are, Male’ atoll, Felidhu Atoll and Ari atoll.

The ministry is talking with ADB and IDB. In 2018, waste will not be incinerated openly in Thilafushi and near by inhabited islands and resorts will be free from smoke according to the ministry. According to the ministry, it is estimated that 126 million dollars will be spent on the project and the discussions so far has been positive.

Environment Ministry also stated that if the project can be started in 2018, the environment can be protected and the economy of Maldives will not be damaged from unsafe waste disposal practices according to the ministry.

The waste management project of Zone three is a high priority project for the government.
