Exports in May increases by 34 percent .

Records show that exports has increased by 34 percent in May compared to May 2016.

Records of Customs show that last year 373 million Rufiyaa worth of goods were exported in May. However, this year the figure was at 498 million Rufiyaa. This is an increase of 34 percent.

The main export of Maldives is tuna and 68 percent of the exported goods were exported to Thailand.

In addition, the imports of May 2017 increased compared to April 2016. The major imports were from UAE, China, and Singapore. The revenue from imports and other fees increased by 16 percent in May 2017 compared to May 2016. In May 2016 the 239 million Rufiyaa was generated from import duties and other fees while last year the figure was at 206 million.
