Guest houses target Indian tourists

Guesthouse operators in Maldives, have started a program targeting Indian tourists. The guesthouse owners in K.Maafushi invited the Indian Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra to Maafushi last Friday.

The trip was organized by Guest House Association of Maldives. The ambassador was given information about various guesthouses and high end hotels developed in the island.

Speaking to Miadhu News, about the trip, Akhilesh Mishra said that he found various things of interest from the island.

He said that each guesthouse and hotel was unique. In addition, he said that since the hotels were developed by locals based on local concepts, the uniqueness of the hotels increases. “ Maldivians are really good at these types of work. The work is simple yet, elegant. The craftsmanship of Maldivians can be seen from the work” said the Ambassador.

Mishra said that he also visited Local Council, school of the island and the hospital as well. “ I saw a cultural group from the island. Their performances were also extremely well” said the ambassador.

Tourist arrivals from India to Maldives are increasing year by year. In a ceremony held to mark the republic day of India, the ambassador said that he will do everything in his means to increase the number of tourists to Maldives from India.

Akhilesh Mishra said that while he has worked as the ambassador to Maldives only for a year and number of tourist arrivals has increased by 22 percent. “I will continue to work to increase Indian tourists to Maldives” said the ambassador.

He said that number of tourists from India increased to 67,000 from 52,000 and that is an increment of 22 percent.
